In recognition of AAHOF’s commitment to preserving the history of aviation in Australia, and inspiring it’s future, the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) has bestowed one of their most prestigious Awards, the FAI Group Diploma of Honour. The Diplomas were established in 1965 by the FAI to recognize groups of people (design offices, scientific bodies, aeronautical publications, etc) that have contributed significantly to the progress of Aeronautics and Astronautics during the previous year or years.
The citation that accompanies the award reads:
Australian Aviation Hall of Fame (AUS)
The Australian Aviation Hall of Fame (AAHOF) is in the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society
Museum (HARS) at Albion Park Rail NSW, Australia and exists virtually though the website at
www.aahof.com.au Since its initial launch in 2010, AAHOF has inducted 61 Australians in
recognition of their outstanding contributions to the development of aviation/aerospace in
Australia. AAHOF has also recognised 12 organisations for their outstanding contributions to
aviation and aerospace through the Southern Cross Award. In 2025, a further 4 Australians will be inducted into the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame, along with an aviation organisation recognised for its contribution through the Southern Cross Award. AAHOF has only existed for 15 years whereas our proud aviation heritage stretches back more than a century.
Given our proud aviation/aerospace history, we continue to receive nominations for induction from families of those that were instrumental in advancements of the aviation/aerospace industry back as far as the early 1900’s. We also receive nominations for the induction of individuals who have made significant contribution to aviation/aerospace in recent years. AAHOF continues to be committed to the cause of preserving our proud heritage of aviation and aerospace in Australia, recognising those that have made significant contributions to these disciplines, and inspiring our aviation/aerospace future.
The award will formally be presented by the FAI to AAHOF in Finland on 22 October 2025.
Grahame Hill, President of the Air Sport Australia Confederation (ASAC) will accept the award on behalf of AAHOF.
In July, AAHOF announced the inductees for 2025 as Bill Bristow AM, Greg Dunstone, William “Billy” Hart, and Sir Ivan Holyman KBE MC MiD. AAHOF also announced the Regional Aviation Association of Australia (RAAA) as the winner of the 2025 AAHOF Southern Cross Award. These inductees and the RAAA will be honoured at a Gala Induction Dinner to be held on Saturday evening 14 March 2026 at the home of AAHOF on the mezzanine floor above the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS).
Details of how to book tickets for the AAHOF Gala Induction Dinner scheduled for Saturday 14 March 2026 can be found on our website (www.aahof.com.au).
